Hi, I'm Helen Harrison, director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in East Hampton, and I've got a great idea for a fun activity you can do with your kids.

Let's get creative by being destructive! We're going to cut up old magazines, recycle some wrapping paper and ribbon to make a collage, just like Lee Krasner used to do.

Your kids may have done Jackson Pollock-style drip paintings in school. He liked to use liquid paint to make colorful abstract pictures.

His wife Lee Krasner was an artist, too. If she made a drawing or a painting that she wasn't happy with, she wouldn't throw it away. She'd just cut it up, or tear it to shreds. Then she'd use her imagination to make something much more interesting.

Let me show you how she did it. She'd spread out some paper and drop the pieces on it. Then she'd move them around until she liked the arrangement, and then glue the pieces to the paper.

Why not try it yourself? You'll be surprised by how much fun it is and what you and your kids can create.  So use this idea to get inspired and keep the arts alive in your child's life.
