John Miller: Keep Supporting the American Red Cross | A Minute Smarter

John Miller of the American Red Cross, Long Island Chapter, tells us the benefits of volunteering for your community.

John Miller, CEO of the American Red Cross on Long Island

When Hurricane Sandy barreled up the coast, Long Islanders expected the American Red Cross to be there—and we were—with shelter, food and comfort for thousands of our residents. Even now, we are helping meet the needs of those whose lives were torn apart by the storm, and together, we will grow stronger as a community.

Yet we are also there for everyday emergencies. Imagine losing your home to a fire in the middle of the night.  Often, it is a Red Cross volunteer that throws a blanket around a fire victim and makes sure they have somewhere to go. Or, picture yourself needing immediate help, like CPR or lifesaving blood, in a medical emergency.

The American Red Cross is only able to do its work through the generosity of its volunteers and donors—and we need your help Long Island. Please visit us online at RedCross.org to volunteer or make a donation today. Thank you for your support of the American Red Cross.
