"The goal of Rocky Point Union Free School District is to meet the educational needs of all our children by providing the best learning experience for students so that they may have every opportunity to become productive members of society and leaders in their communities.
The Rocky Point Union Free School District, including the town of Rocky Point and parts of the hamlets of Sound Beach and Miller Place, comprises a largely residential community in the County of Suffolk on the North Shore of Long Island, 55 miles east of the New York City line. Originally a community for summer vacationers, the area has now become a year-round residence for increasing numbers of young families, creating a mini-population boom in elementary schools. Overall, population has significantly increased in the decade, rising more than 15%; student population now numbers over 3500. The Rocky Point High School houses grades 9 – 12. These grades are completely departmentalized, and each student attends eight, 42-minute periods per day. The school offers a comprehensive program, and each student may choose from a wide variety of courses. The enrollment at the High School has reached over 1000 students. There is an extensive extra-curricular program that includes clubs, intramural and inter-scholastic athletic competition, school band, chorus, and drama."
