During the 1980's, Sam Rubin ventured to eastern Long Island and acquired what has since become the beautiful Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard® ("BHFV"). Sam, a lifelong farmer and naturalist, began to till the soil, the basis for all great wines, using only organic compost and other natural ingredients. This approach, the acquisition of fine French vines, the rather hospitable climate of the region, along with his vision and hard work, remain the foundation for BHFV's rather exceptional wine. We still only use natural fertilizer and we do not use herbicides (we merely turn the weeds right back into our soil to enrich it). We believe this all shows up in the flavorful taste and wonderful aroma of our grapes and in turn, our wine .
When visiting wine country along the North Fork of Long Island, BHFV is the first vineyard you will see on Sound Avenue, conveniently located just east of Edwards Avenue (Exit 71 on the LIE-495, then head north on Edwards Avenue for only 3.8 miles).
